Saturday Windswell ~ April 7th

Things have been very quiet at Rincon for a while now, while the reality has set in that it is now Southern-Hemi season, and the "Queen of the Coast" is just about ready for her annual hibernation/slumber.  Just when you quit checking the buoy data and are about to give up all hope of getting wet one last time another little windswell pops its head in...  This morning the swell model showed swell heights had jumped from 2.7' to 4.4', and the angle was just about perfect for Rincon at approximately 285 degrees.  When I arrived at about 10:00 the parking lot was practically empty -- usually not a good sign.  I wasn't even planning on taking pictures, so I only brought along my trusty little 70-200mm lens, and no monopod.  As I was walking down the trail I could see and hear that there was some activity, and when I finally caught my first glimpse a head-high set was peeling through the cove.  "Damn.  There are waves today at Rincon!"

Here is Valerie Aroyan sliding down the face of a clean cove peeler...

Rincon local "Char" charging down the line...

And...  There are more waves headed our way...  Maybe there is a GOD!
