Saturday Treat: More Waves at The 'Con...

Is this flurry recent activity at Rincon "unseasonable", or is the season just arriving late?  I don't know, but for the handful of faithful diehards, rewards seem to be coming in bunches these days...  Today was no exception.  A friend who was driving to L.A. called to tell me that there was consistent, glassy, head-high surf going off, and that the lineup was practically empty.  The Internet swell models were showing a West swell (285 degrees) of about 4.5 feet.  The local Campus Pt. cam wasn't showing much of anything but some small grungy burgers.  Since I had nothing better to do I decided to take a chance, and I made to 20 minute drive down the coast.  When I arrived the parking lot was about 1/3 full -- not usually a good sign.  I brought my camera along, but only my second-string (70-200mm) shooting lens.  Once I arrived on the sand I was surprised to see just what my friend had described on the phone.  I set a limit of 30 minutes for picture taking, not wanting to miss out on the opportunity for some great uncrowded Rincon.  Well, the 30 minutes ended up only being about 15; one set was all it took to send me back up the path to the parking lot to retrieve my board...

Spotlight on a local: (Ted) Muñoz scores in classic form...

A throwback to another era, Ted Muñoz is one of the more colorful or interesting personalities that call Rincon "home".  Ted's a great surfer, and there is never a dull moment whenever he is in the water...

Check out this series of pics taken of "Rincon Pit Crew" Muñoz today at The 'Con...

Nice bottom turn, Ted!

Head-dip.

Speed trim...

And, the barrel...

Finish with the patented Muñoz cutback...

A word to the wise.  Pay no attention to the surf forecasts and reports!

Time to get back in the water...
