California Surf Alert from Surfline.com
Southern-Hemi Swells Lining Up!
"After an extended period of zonal flow and resulting small surf from the Southern Hemisphere, storm activity pointed toward California has cranked back to life of late. We've already begun to see a few pulses hit our shores with more playful surf on tap in the short term at well exposed beaches. The longer range prognosis is looking better as back to back SSW swells are lining up for the end of May and into early June. While these aren't looking like major swells at this point, they'll offer better energy than we've seen in the past few weeks. These storms still have further development as well so we'll be tracking their progress through the South Pacific in the next several days."
Spotlight on a local
Another familiar face in the Rincon lineup is longtime regular Rod Lock. Rod writes that he has been riding Rincon since 1960 when he was only 13 years old, and has been surfing there ever since. "When I turned 16 I got a Ford Ranchero, and I slept in the back, up on the highway just above where the pit is now (that’s when you could park up there). There was no parking lot then, and no freeway. I’ve seen the place change a lot..."

**Editor's Note: I love old stories and accounts of Rincon, as well as old photographs. If anyone would like to contribute, please feel free to email me, Jon_Shafer@cox.net.
The Attack of the Killer Groms...
Personally I can remember a time when there was this kid, little "Tommy" Curren, who used to put on a clinic for the big boys every time that he paddled out at the point back in the mid-70's. Not only are his kids tearing it up nowadays, but there is a whole legion of "über groms" who now call Rincon home. To add a little balance to the "old-timers", here are some shots of the little guys getting radical at the point...
Identity unknown, I swear this kid can't be much older than 5 years...
