NO SURF, BUT BLAZING GUITARS MEET SMOKE AND ASHE OVER WEEKEND...

Surf Drought Continues

Despite the lack of any decent rideable surf to be found anywhere along the Southern California Coast this past weekend, there was one spot that was really pumping...to the sounds of legendary musician/surfer Dick Dale at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History on Saturday night.

Tearing up the stage as if he were still a grom, the 70 year old artist who pioneered surf music back in the 1950's and 1960's proved that getting old doesn't necessarily mean that you can't "charge it" like you used to...forever.

Joined on stage by his talented 15 year old son James, and backed up by a world-class band, Dick Dale had the Santa Barbara crowd hooting and hollaring as he ripped through a playlist of all of his well-known classic material.

Perhaps most memorable was the time that he spent interacting with the crowd, sharing the insights and wisdom gleaned from his 70 years of living on Planet Earth.

Dick spoke of love, compassion, and living life the way you want to -- regardless of the critics -- because if you follow your heart, success and longevity will be the end result.  What a gift, what a blessing to be able to share an evening with a true legend, one of the most influential surfers in the history of the sport, who music has touched the souls of millions and millions of surfers and non-surfers alike -- right here in our own backyard, in such an intimate setting.

THANK YOU DICK DALE, AND THE SANTA BARBARA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY!
