Weekend Surf Report

Windswell Arrives Bringing Shoulder-High Surf to The Point

Holding true to the forecasts, Rincon surfers were greeted Saturday morning with a very clean and juicy little windswell.  I didn't bring my camera, so I don't have any pics, but I will tell you that the surf felt almost like a groundswell.  When I arrived at the parking lot (10:00 a.m.), I was surprised to find the lot more than 2/3's full.  It wasn't all out-of-towners and tourists either; most of the vehicles were recognizable as belonging to the local crew.  I didn't even bother walking down the path to check it out as Char Harris and Deb Trauntvein assured me that the surf was good, and I needn't waste any time.  The air temp was pushing 80, and the water was quite warm as well.  Felt like upper 60's, warmest up top at Indicator.  Perfect conditons for trunking it.

I surfed for about 2 hours, mostly up at Indicator.  The average was was between waist- and shoulder-high, and the biggest sets were shoulder-high plus.  Some of the waves at The Rivermouth were really hollow.  I saw several young guys shredding and getting barrelled.  As it got close to noon the tide started coming up and choking off the energy.  The reports from later in the afternoon after the tide started dropping again echoed what was said about the morning session.

As I was leaving I ran into Wayne Rich up in the parking lot who was getting ready to paddle out and do some new product testing.  He showed me a couple of his new epoxy prototypes that he's been working on, as well as his own custom-foiled fins that will be produced under his own brand label.  Wayne's new stuff looks absolutely sick.  I can't wait to try one out...  I'm not generally a huge fan of the epoxy surfboard, but Wayne's felt different.  His new product is not a Surftech, but rather something totally new and of his own creation.  Ted Muñoz recently began riding one, and was raving about it... totally stoked...

Surfing Websites

While I'm logged in here I thought I'd share a cool website that I've been reading myself, Legendary Surfers.  Covering "Surfing from an Historical and Cultural Viewpoint from 2500 B.C. to Present Day", the material presented makes for a very interesting read for times like these, when sessions are so few and far between.
