Santa Barbara Surf Club Scores at Malibu!
Malibu Surfing Association Contest Today and Tomorrow
I travelled down to The 'Bu late this morning to check out the MSA contest, and to see how some of the local crew from Rincon was faring. I didn't get there until close to 11:00, just in time to catch Deb Trauntvein's heat (she placed 2nd -- yeah Deb!!). While I was there I saw Andrew Buck also grab 2nd in his heat. From what I understand several others did well in their respective divisions. The SW swell was clean and setty. The wind that was blowing out spots to the North didn't seem to bother Malibu. With such light crowds during the heats (contest organizers did an excellent job of keeping non-contestants out of the water), many sets rolled through unridden. Anyway, it will be interesting to hear the final results as the are so many contenders from SBSC. We wish them good luck!
By the way, I shot close to 800 images, and it will take quite a lot of time to process them all, but here is a teaser - a shot that will give you a good idea about the overall conditions and wave quality that competitors were blessed with today...
