Andrew Buck. Rincon local / MSA 2007 Champion ~ 30-39 Men
Excerpt from SBSC email:
"Wow! What a weekend! A true milestone for the Santa Barbara Surf Club. No surprises for the end of this email here. This weekend the club sent 38 surfers to the MSA Classic and, in the end, walked away winners. That's right, the overall victor of the 2007 MSA Classic is the Santa Barbara Surf Club. To my knowledge (and anyone who knows otherwise, please correct me), this weekend's first place team finish at the MSA Classic, is the first time the club has finished in the top team slot overall at a coalition of surfing club's event. After taking second at MSA in 2004, 2005, and 2006, i guess the victory was merely a matter of time! Congrats to the whole team and to the club. Of course, winning a contest feels great, but for some reason, winning MSA's contest, after finishing ahead of them at the 2007 Call to the Wall also, feels even sweeter. Perhaps it's due to their last several years of playful insults they have tossed at us (BACKGROUND: For the past three years or so, ever since MSA "got" (i say "stole"), Brett and Cole Robbins from us, they have referred to the SBSC as the "MSA Farm Team", a remark we casually chuckle off, though isn't always nice to see the underdog win? I think so).
Anyway, to the specifics. Saturday saw remarkably fun waves coming thru 1st point Malibu, with a mere 6 surfers enjoying the surf during their heats. 26 of our 38 surfers made it into the second round. These second days heats were held in albeit smaller waves, waist-stomach+ sets, but still fun. In the end, the club sent 18, yes 18 (e-i-g-h-t-t-e-e-n), surfers into the finals. I have no way to know for sure, but i am pretty sure that is a personal best for us. Now for the invidual results:
14 and Under Boys:
Shane Milhollin - 2nd place
Tyler Milhollin - 5th place (this is Tyler's second Malibu Final of the Summer)

Whew! What a list of finalist. Special congrats to Sarah Slaughter (15-19 Women) and Ashley Harris (15-19 Women) who surfed their first ever contest for the SBSC and surfed very well. Also, thanks to the MSA for their hardwork, and everyone who surfed in this contest and helped make club history. You did the club very proud."
Congratulations again to all of the competitors who represented the Santa Barbara Surf Club!

I wasn't able to get back down to Malibu today for the finals of the 2007 MSA contest, but as promised here are a few of the images that I captured from the beach yesterday. You'll recognize Rincon local Debbie Trauntvein in several of them. Kudos to Deb again for claiming 2nd place in her heat! I've got litterally 800 or so images to sort through from the contest. I'll try to post some more later in the week.
As we move into the Rincon surf season I (God willing) should have plenty of opportunites to shoot quality sessions at the point. Whenever you see either me on the beach, or a sign up by the parking lot on any given day that I will be shooting, you will be able to log in here to Rincon Surf Blog and find pictures of yourself. Below is a sample gallery to demonstrate the new format...

P.S. The surf forecast for the coming week is iffy at best, a good time to strip all of the old wax off of your boards and do some ding repair in preparation for what could be a killer season!

Hi John:
Great photos.I surf for MSA and wanted to know if you have a portfolio somewhere. You have a picture of me on your site and I would be interested in seeing if you snapped any others (might be interested in purchasing). I am in the last photo on your link here. Thanks.
Mike
