Weekend Update

Surf Flicks Galore

Last night I attended the premier of "One California Day" at Santa Barbara's historic Arlington Theatre, and what stoker evening it was.  Buoyed by what appeared to be a sold-out crowd, the energy was in the place was intense, only to be matched by the quality of the film itself.  Shot in HD 16mm format, the film was reminiscent of the classic surf movies that I grew up with in the 70's; incredible visual images matched with a real story line and great music.  There was also lots of incredible footage of Rincon, as well as other local spots featuring the surfing of brothers Joe and Tom Curren.  It was also really cool to see so many familiar faces at one time inside the theatre...  The film will be coming out in DVD some time soon, and I would recommend to anyone who missed the theatre showing to get a copy.  A "don't miss" for sure...  Don't forget too, that all weekend long the Surfrider Foundation benefit Ocean Film Festival will be going on.  In particular, be sure to check out the world premier of "Down the Barrel"...

Surf Report

Several RSB readers have emailed me reports from the past couple of days saying that there has been some decent rideable surf at The Point.  Ironically enough (especially with the Rincon Septic-to-Sewer bru-ha-ha raging this week) I have been sick as a dog with a cold and sinus infection since surfing Rincon this past weekend.  Hopefully I will be feeling good enough to paddle out as there figure to be waves and good weather (hi temps and offshore winds).  If not, at least I'll get a chance to shoot...

Have a great weekend!

Best regards,
--Jon
