Santa Barbara & Ventura Surf Clubs Get Together to Celebrate
Contest at Hobson's Highlite of Weekend

A weekend of camping at Hobson's featured a surf contest like no other as surf club members donned their costumes and took to the water.  Characters ranging from the Silver Surfer to the Skipper from Gilligan's Island made a spectacle of the otherwise lackluster surfing conditions on Saturday.  The timing of the contest couldn't have been more perfect, as rain had been falling all morning but miraculously stopped right when the contest started.  Not only that but the window of opportunity - the space of time between the astronomically high tide of the morning and the super low of the afternoon was just perfect as this was the best hour of waves all weekend.  Shortly after the contest ended the wind started blowing; the organizers clearly had some keen insight as to when to schedule the contest...

Below are a few random images to memorialize the event for your viewing pleasure...  :p

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, that started at this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship."

What is up with the surf?

I'll leave the predictions up to the experts, but after a promising early October run of swell activity, concern is growing over the quiet and calm that has taken over the North Pacific as of late.  Windswells are fine and dandy, but dammit, November is right around the corner, and prime surf season is just about here.  Hopefully activity will resume brewing, and we'll all have something soon to get stoked about....
