"Mother of all Swells" headed our way?

Get Ready to Get Rocked!

Even if you haven't subscribed to Surfline or Wetsand's email surf alerts, and unless you are comatose you know that one of the biggest and strongest swells in years is about to rock the West Coast.  Pope over at www.santabarbarasurfing.com is calling it the "Hannukah Swell".  Even on the 11:00 news last night they dedicated a full 7 or 8 minutes to the subject, warning homeowners of the impending doom - the matchup of astronomical (new moon) high tides with macking surf.  We should start seeing signs of the swell on the local buoys soon enough.

Here's a graphic courtesy of Stormsurf.com to illustrate the potency of this swell.

Surfers have been advised to exerecise extreme caution with the long-period nature of this swell. Of course, as is often the case, this swell may not live up to all of the advanced hype. The weather forecast is looking favorable, so I will remain optimistic about the shooting prospects coming with this swell.
