Finally - A Swell That Lives Up to Expectations!

Monster West is a "Killer" Swell, Keeps Ocean Rescue Personnel On Guard

Usually when we get a swell with as much adavanced hype as this one, surfers are left a bit disappointed.  But not this time.  I began this week with a trip to Ghost Tree up in Carmel to shoot the towsurfer, and witnessed spectacular surfing as well as tragedy as one surfer was killed...  Unfortunately, extreme risk is part of that game.  Read the full story here. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Peter Davi.

Here are some sample images from Tuesday.

Big Wednesday

Up next was Rincon on Wednesday.

I didn't see many surfers getting radical; just making it to the bottom seemed to be challenging enough for most...

Wide-swinging sets broke left at The Rivermouth due to the extreme Westerly swell direction.

I finished off my day at the Santa Barbara Harbor.  Sandspit was insane.  I watched Kelly Slater get a 10 second barrel - the sickest tuberide I've ever witnessed.  He was reportedly doing the same at Campus Pt. on Tuesday.  Stand-up barrel anyone?

There's still some swell in the water. Hope you can get out and get some today!

Have a good one,
--Jon
