Thursday Super Session / Big Weekend Swell Coming / Maverick's Contest = "Game On"
Solid Swell, Sunshine, and Offshore Winds Today @ Rincon
I'm so bummed. It seems like Thursdays have been the magic day of the week this season, and unfortunately, that's the one day of the week that I absolutely cannot get away from my job...
Reports from Rincon characterized today's session as maybe the best day of the year for all-around quality (read: perfection). This moderate swell is supposed to continue through Friday, and then Saturday another macker is due to hit from the NPAC. The upcoming weekend is going to mean great conditions for several contests, including one at Church, and also the Maverick's contest (where swells of 20-25 feet are forecast). This is particularly exciting because a viable contest swell never arrived at all last season, so it's been 2 years since the last Mav's contest went off... Let's hope this year's contest goes down without a hitch...
Spotlight on a Local Lensman: John Goodman
"
John R. Goodman, born in 1956 in New York City graduated from Hobart
College with a BA in Fine Art. An experienced photographer, cameraman, and video editor he utilizes state of the art technology as producer and director of animation and effects for broadcast and industrial clients alike."
John is talented in many other areas, including computer graphics and web design.
During the epic 'Big Wednesday' swell of December 2007, John was testing out a new Nikon D300 camera when he captured an image of one of the biggest sets of the day - easy 3x overhead - a rogue monster that was somebody's dream wave for sure... Check out the size of that wave plus some cool artistic images that he shot last weekend with a classic Rolleiflex 6x6 from that dates from 1954... A true oldie but goodie...
Thanks for contributing your work John!

I BET YOU WILL HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND WITH THE CURRENT FORECAST...i am off to Mav's for the weekend...and will be thinking of you. splash
what is the best swell direction for the Rancn? WNW? What is the most consistent spots for wintertime? Razor's or Gov. Point?
Jerry, the answer to your first question depends on season, plus "best" is a somewhat subjective evaluation. This time of year Razor's kicks ass on a strong WNW. The trouble is getting there...
Thanks for replying Jon. I hiked in last Saturday, wish I had a boat! Great website! keep up the good work.
