Rincon Local Chris 'Brownie' Brown Named Billabong XXL 2008 Contender

Local Charger Strokes into Contention for "Monster Paddle" Award

A visit by aforementioned Rincon locals Akiskalian & Brown to Maverick's last week could end up with a huge reward with a little bit of luck.  How cool wuld that be?  The season is far from over, but we wish our local boys luck in this prestigious pursuit.  Kudos to both.  Bravo!!!

Surf Report

So far this has been a decent week at The 'Con.  Monday was solid head-high plus, with offshores forming clean barrels at the point.  Tuesday continued sans the offshores.  The morning session was affected by a fat 6' tide, but that wasn't enough to keep Tom Curren and his kids out of the lineup.  Reports from the Tuesday afternoon session had classic low-tide peeling Rincon with moderate size and excellent shape.  There were even leftovers from the faded combo swell today for those who ignored the Internet forecasts.  More swell energy is on the way for the weekend...

The Brazilian Backsider

All season long I've been noticing and a goofy-footer I've never seen at Rincon before, a surfer with eye-catching agility and speed.  I finally found out who he was, and it turns out that his name is Daniel Morais, and he has taken up temporary residence locally, hailing from his native Brasil.  It will be interesting to see what happens in this year's Rincon Classic, if a foreigner can contend with the area favorites ...
