Weekend Forecast Downgraded; Rincon Classic a "GO"?
Still Waiting for the Official Word From Contest Organizers
I haven't heard an official statement from the organizers of the Rincon Classic yet, but I am expecting that the contest will go off this weekend as small-to-moderate surf is forecast for Saturday, and possibly larger on Sunday, with fair weather. If I hear anything more, I will post it here.
In the meantime, ongoing discussions have been taking place, contemplating just how big the largest set waves were at Rincon on Sunday, February 24th. What say you? Please use the comments section below to voice your opinion. Keep in mind that the swell model was registering observed heights up to 25 feet from the local buoys...

yepp......i'm going to stick with my 20 - 22 ft. and that's my final answer. :-0
My friends and I have always used the
69' swell as a benchmark for Big Rincon. I think this swell was bigger
(and larger tha 83'-84' or 98')because
the "Bombora" outside reef broke more
consistently and even washed all the
way into the break which I don't think
has ever happened. I was 17 when I
paddled out for the 69' swell but I
decided to pass on Sunday. Steve Johnson, Jeff Boyd and some other long
time Rincon guys did it though. Good
job Blake, I saw you shredding. As for
size easy 15' faces with Blake on some
18-20' faces. I am sure if I was caught
inside on a set it would have felt like
25'.

Check out these and see for yourself, bombora coming all the way through on the first one.
Look at the size of the cars in the foreground compared to the wave at tarpitz. it even looks bigger than the pier. you need to copy and paste in the address bar for each.

I wasn't there but judging from other areas of Ventura county I was in that day, I'll agree with Don and say at least 25 feet. They were huge. I have a picture of the Ventura floodplain on my blog from "Big Sunday" 2008. Huge rollers, check it out. This is the address, copy and paste it if you'd like. www.10footstick.blogspot.com
