Baron's Mexican Misadventure, Whitey Meets Surfer & More
Rincon Local Baron Spafford Survives Bandidos & Major Auto Wreck
Despite all this, venerable surfer scores some good surf in Oaxaca, Mexico

Writes Baron, "We're getting close to the new season, but I almost didn't make it. Just got back from a great trip to deep Mexico where I rode a point as long as Rincon by myself. I paid dearly though. After being robbed by a bandito with a machete, loosing camera equipment, $500 cash and passport, credit cards etc. I was hit head on while driving home from the airport north of Malibu. I'm back in the water now."
God bless you Baron. Glad to hear that you survived all that was thrown at you. No surprise, though, you're a strong man with great character; we all look forward to joining you in the lineup in a few weeks....
All the best in your recovery,

White Shark Attacks Surfer Near Lompoc Earlier This Week
Quick-thinking surfer uses his board to defend himself.

What do think: fix this CI thruster to surf another day, or turn the good luck stick into a wallhanger?
Surf Beach — On September 7, 2008 a surfer, Kyle, had his board bitten at Surf Beach, which is located near Lompoc not far from Highway 1 and 240 where the road ends at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Northern Santa Barbara County. Martin Brody at The Fear Beneath web site provided the following information: “Our sources tell us that while out surfing, a friend of theirs - Kyle (last name withheld) - was on ‘the outside reform’ at Surf Beach on Monday when a large shark began to circle him. Kyle used his surfboard as a shield and pointed the fins of his board towards the shark. The shark took the board into its mouth for several seconds before releasing the board."
