Consistently Inconsistent
Once Again, Saturday's The Day
Have you ever noticed that some years, swells always seem to hit on a particular day of the week? Sometimes, it's Saturday. Other years it's Sunday (never on a weekday, though)! Well, this year it's Saturday again. Following another wave drought since the contest, Rincon has roared back to life with clean overhead conditions. For most of this Winter's surf season local surfers have been teased with forecasts and predictions of significant swell events, only to be disappointed when they failed to materialize. The wave-generating machine of the North Pacific has been relatively quiet, even silent at times since the beginning of the season last November. The high-pressure ridge that has dominated our weather pattern has finally broken down, resulting in the arrival of our Winter surfing season, albeit 3 months late. Along with the first significant rainfall in months, the floodgates are now open for a succession of swells as the Pacific has seemingly roarded back to life. Kelly Slater obviously took notice on Saturday as he put on a virtual clinic in The Cove, while his every move was followed by an entourage of surf paparazzi, disciples, fans, and followers. Unfortunately, the wind came up on Sunday and the conditions became blown-out. Things are looking good for the rest of this week...
