Local Surfing Community Mourns the Loss of One of Its Own...

It is with great sadness that I must pass along some very bad news about a tragic loss that occurred in local waters last Wednesday evening as first reported Santa Barbara Surfing.

In an unfortunate follow-up to that story, I just received the following letter from a close family friend who indicated that Lindsay Rose, a 15 year old young woman who attended both La Colina and Dos Pueblos passed away yesterday (Sunday, April 5th) at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

"With great sorrow my daughter’s dear friend Lindsay Rose (right side)  passed away yesterday due to a drowning incident @ Sands Beach last Wednesday.  She was in pediatric ICU through yesterday when it was decided to say goodbye..  She was an avid swimmer, junior lifeguards for 4 years as well as an accomplished surfer, softball player & soccer star.  Her best friend Shannon (left) tried desperately to revive her with CPR but to no avail.

We will miss her dearly & pray Don & Linda Rose everyday as this is a parent’s worst nightmare.

I’m sending this out to encourage us all to know CPR as even though it didn’t help Lindsay I understand that 95% of the time it does – let’s all look into getting our certificates, training ourselves as well as our children.  Life is short and we all like to play hard – so let’s be safe when doing so!

Please take this time to say a prayer & love your children dearly as life passes too quickly.

Love to you all"

Another responded wrote to me as well.

"She was a beautiful young woman who was a brilliant student and outstanding athlete.  She was a local surfer who attended La Colina and Dos Pueblos and played travel softball and soccer.  She was well known for her remarkable speed and agility.  She touched the lives of many with her kindness and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends at this time."

I will pass along any additional information as it becomes either needed or available.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Lindsay Rose.
